Presented by renowned storyteller Susan O'Halloran using music and song, Stories of Race, Stories of Place, Stories of Grace is based on a series of stories that highlight the four types of racism Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, addressed in his 2001 Pastoral Letter, Dwell In My Love.
Stories of Race, Stories of Place, Stories of Grace is open to all family members 10 and older, and will include a reflective dialogue session and a freewill offering.
Men's fellowship

Congregation Beth Judea's Men's Club introduces a new program called "Hearing Men's Voices," which addresses the need for men to address pertinent and challenging personal issues together with other men in a safe, comfortable and confidential setting. The first "Hearing Men's Voices" program will be at 10 a.m. April 6 at Beth Judea, Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove.
Three topics to be addressed are: balancing life (work, family Beth Judea); empty nesters (filling the void); and from bar mitzvah to college (dealing and relating to your teenager). Miscellaneous
In an effort to seek common ground and greater understanding between neighbors of different faiths, a series of interfaith dialogues have been planned at three distinct houses of worship.
Patterned after "Abraham Salons" suggested by author Bruce Feiler in his book, "Abraham," each community will jointly stage three different discussions focusing on each of the faiths. The presentations will emphasize the common heritage that began with Abraham, whose story inspires all three of the faiths.
Rabbi Max Weiss of Beth Tikvah Congregation, the Rev. Don Myrom of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Dr. Khalid Sami of the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs will each speak on their own faith at another's house of worship.
The series will kick off at 7 p.m. March 8 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 W. Higgins Road, Schaumburg, with a presentation by Rabbi Max Weiss. The second event will be at 7 p.m. March 27 at Beth Tikvah Congregation, 300 Hillcrest Blvd., Hoffman Estates, with a presentation by Dr. Khalid Sami on Islam. The third event will take place at 5 p.m. April 12 at the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs Mosque, 3950 Industrial Drive, Rolling Meadows, with a presentation by the Rev. Don Myrom.
Each meeting will start with a 20-minute presentation by the featured speaker on their faith, followed by comments from the two other faith leaders. There will also be time for questions from the audience. A short dessert fellowship will conclude each evening.

The Rev. Curt Hansen of Elk Grove Village has been called as the seventh senior pastor of Elk Grove Baptist Church, effective today. Hansen, 52, is a longtime Elk Grove Village resident and former missionary to the Philippines. Hansen has been the church's part-time pastor of children's ministries as well as the full-time director of missionary recruiting for the Baptist General Conference. Hansen is also a gifted keyboardist, serving for many years the church as piano accompanist and principal organist. In addition, he has taught adult Sunday school classes and worked with children in the church's Awana program. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and master of divinity degree.

Special services

World Day of Prayer 2008 will be celebrated by Church Women United in Northwest Cook County with a breakfast and service at 9 a.m. March 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, 302 N. Dunton.
The women of Guyana developed the theme "God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding" to express the awesomeness of God's creation and that we can learn from it. The Rev. Diane Shields from First Presbyterian will bring the message.

This year's worship service was written by the women of Guyana. The theme, "God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding," is especially meaningful to the women of Guyana.
The guest speaker for this service is the Rev. Digna Campanano, staff chaplain for Cardiac Care at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital and an ordained clergy in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. Campanano, who hails from the Philippines, has a degree in political science from the University of Pangasinan, Philippines.
