This is the twelfth entry in a series focusing on computer baseball simulations to supplement the chapter “Play Retro Baseball Video Games In Your Browser” from my Hardball Retroactive book along with the corresponding post at Baseball Analytics. The series focuses on baseball simulations – games in which the primary emphasis is on managerial strategy and the ability to replay entire seasons with a degree of realism. Baseball video games that are strictly arcade representations of baseball (based solely on reflex and hand-eye coordination) are excluded.

I'm ready to start my retro Earl Weaver Baseball League, keeping stats and playing each game in a 154-game schedule for both AL and NL using great teams of my own creation. Most of these were created 30 years ago but I've had the chance to revise the subjective ratings and do many auto-replays to test their viability. Earl Weaver 1.5 is the version I'll be using, released in 1987. I'm a fan of retro computer games in general and this is my favorite baseball game from that era (1983-93). It is truly the first computer game to reach a mass audience having simulation capabilities. The league will be 10 pre-War AL teams and 10 post-war NL teams. AL teams include 20 CLE, 22 STL, 24 WAS, 27 NY, 30 PHI, 34 DET. NL includes 50 PHI, 53 BRK, 54 NY, 67, STL, 69 and 89 NY. And more. Would anyone be interested in posts for this replay? Standings, league leaders, and some single game reports? --Dave
