Melodrama over Amerikaanse en Canadese vrouwen die tijdens WO II hun mannetje stonden in de All American Girls Baseball League. De film is een lange terugblik op mooie gebeurtenissen in de jaren veertig. Jammer dat het al met al niet zo'n beste film werd. Ondanks de fraaie opmaat waarin oud-honkbalcrack Dottie Hinson (gespeeld door Geena Davis) door dochterlief naar de honkbalreünie wordt gestuurd. Hinson vindt van zichzelf dat ze niet fanatiek is, ze zegt dat ze in de oorlog alleen maar meespeelde omdat toch iemand het moest doen. Maar zodra ze het ouwe stadion binnenstapt, blijkt alle afstandelijkheid schijn. Tom Hanks speelt een uitgebluste coach. Madonna doet ook mee en is vaak in ondergoed te zien.
