Team Pushpa 2: The Rule went on an extensive promotional spree to ensure a massive opening for the film, which released on December 5. Their efforts clearly paid off, as the Allu Arjun-Sukumar collaboration shattered numerous box-office records and is now just shy of entering the prestigious Rs 1000 crore club.
The promotional campaign began with a grand event in Patna, Bihar, where a massive crowd gathered to cheer for their beloved star and celebrate the return of a character they’ve embraced as their own. This event has since been touted as a game-changer in promotional strategies for big-budget films aiming for pan-Indian appeal. However, actor Siddharth, recently seen in Indian 2, has expressed his skepticism.
Siddharth shares thoughts on promotional campaign of Pushpa 2
In a podcast with YouTuber Madan Gowri, Siddharth, while promoting his upcoming film Miss You, spoke candidly about the "manufactured hype" surrounding films. “It is all marketing,” he remarked when asked about the reach of Pushpa 2 in Hindi markets.
“Honestly, in our country, it is not tough to pool in crowds. For instance, if you are going to have four JCBs in an area to do some construction, you will have people gathering just to witness it. They (team Pushpa 2) booked a ground and organised an event. People came to watch. That’s all. In India, crowds don’t reflect quality,” he stated.
Siddharth further likened these promotional events to political rallies, saying that while large crowds may gather, it doesn’t guarantee success.
“Most participants in such political rallies are paid to be there,” Siddharth added. “Back in my time, we used to call these crowds Biriyani and quarter bottle (alcohol).” His remarks, which seemingly downplayed the film’s reach, have sparked a backlash among netizens, with many criticizing the actor for his comments.
About Pushpa 2
Pushpa 2, which has already grossed over Rs 900 crore worldwide, has become the fastest Indian film to surpass Rs 500 crore, Rs 600 crore, Rs 700 crore, Rs 800 crore, and Rs 900 crore milestones. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil starrer has proven to be a "review-proof" film, attracting audiences in droves.
Meanwhile, Siddharth’s Miss You, originally slated for release on November 29, was postponed due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and is now set to hit theaters on December 13.
